My name is Amy and I’m so glad you stopped by to read my work.
My website is a space dedicated to recording all of my attempts at fiction writing. I hope you will join me on my journey! Here you’ll find everything from time travel and adventure, to historical explorations and mysteries. If it is fiction, I’ll give it a go.
Fun Facts
I turned 52 in 2021, and my husband and I live in Bloomington, MN where we have made our home for the last 22 years. Bloomington, MN is a suburb of Minneapolis, and we live in a pretty standard suburban neighborhood very near some huge county parks. We love community theatre, pickelball, bike rides, and neighborhood walks.
I am currently obsessed with The Villages, FL. It is a 55+ community in central Florida where we plan to retire. I love the easy access to their active lifestyle, golf carting for miles, and the warm, beautiful Florida weather. I am a woman of action, a planner, and I love to follow rules (games, logic, coloring, etc.). I follow the Virta program and thus follow a keto-type diet. I’m currently binge watching “Murdoch Mysteries” on Hulu. Some of my favorite things include: Playing in the St. Louis Park Community Band, jigsaw puzzles, Disney, travel, spreadsheets, eating out, Christopher & Banks clothing, and my cats Tinkerbell and Pepper. I have two daughters who have become amazing young women, and I married a man who shares my love of adventure. Let’s talk about him for a bit!
My Co-Adventurer
My husband’s name is Peter and he is a process engineer who is perpetually positive, thirsty for knowledge, and always supportive.
- We met at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN in 1988 where we were both physics majors in the same class.
- A small college and an even smaller area of study allow us to really get to know each other before starting to date in 1990.
- We started our adventures locally right off the bat by visiting unique restaurants, attending theatre productions, and visiting local attractions.
- We got married on June 26th, 1992 at a very small wedding held at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center in Roseville, MN. Here we are way back then:
Peter is my best friend. He calms me down, gets me back on track, and gives the best hugs.
He knows things about me even I don’t realize. For example, he suggested I might enjoy becoming a writer when I was trying to envision my life in retirement. He pressed me to seriously consider it and even think about how I could turn it into an income source in retirement. Wow! Was he ever right!
Minnesota Born and Raised
I have lived my whole life in Minnesota. In fact, in some light genealogy work I have done, you would be hard pressed to find anyone in my family who lived anywhere else. Generation after generation, we have called Minnesota home. It is in my blood.
When I was a child, my father instilled in me a love of nature and science. He taught me problem solving when I helped out in his seasonal bike repair shop. He showed me the pleasure of getting lost in a story. My mother instilled in me a love of classic films and music. She taught me how to learn for myself through exceptional study skills. She showed me that things don’t just happen without hard work. My grandfather passed on to me his love of words and knowledge.
My Love of Disney
I have been a Disney fan all of my life. One of my earliest memories is seeing my first movie at the old Har Mar Theater. It was “Alice in Wonderland“. (Now before you get shocked at my age, I am not THAT old. Back then, older movies were re-released into theaters. I am old though. They did this because these were the days before VHS movies. There was no other way to see an old movie other than TV or a theater re-release.) I remember being very impressed with the flower garden scene. Other ways Disney touched my life back then was re-runs of the “Mickey Mouse Club“, watching “The Wonderful World of Disney” on Sunday nights, and begging my parents to visit Walt Disney World. They never did take me to Walt Disney World, but they did end up taking me to Disneyland on a car trip to California in 1980. I loved it.
As an adult, I visited Disneyland all by myself on a California business trip. Then, in 2003, I finally got my trip to Walt Disney World with our two girls. I remember being completely caught up in the magic of the place. Seeing it through the eyes of my two small girls made it all the more magical. That’s when I got hooked hard — we have visited nearly yearly ever since.
In 2012, I was between jobs and was looking for something “fun”. I got the idea of working part-time-seasonal at our local Disney Store at the Mall of America. I was apprehensive about working retail — I had always had a desk job. But I loved it from day 1. The atmosphere, the guests, the merchandise, the events we held — all of it was amazing every day. I felt honored to be a part of creating a little bit of magic right here in Minnesota for the folks who are missing Walt Disney World or who had never been. I loved supporting the Walt Disney Company in this way.
Why I Write
Unfortunately, times changed, and in 2021 Disney Stores around the world closed including our Minnesota stores at the Mall of America and Ridgedale Center. This left me adrift and looking for the next chapter in my life. That’s when my husband suggested I try my hand at writing. He reasoned it would help feed my need to use my “big brain” while perhaps earning a bit of money. Being a woman of action, I joined a daily prompt community and haven’t looked back. My goal is to write serial fiction for profit to keep me busy in retirement. So thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a magical day!
